Choosing a Photo Printer
Choosing A Digital Color Printer
Digital cameras give us the luxury of storing the images we capture on a memory storage device like a memory stick, a memory card, or even the camera’s built-in memory, but most people will still want to have tangible color prints of their photographs.
Their reasons vary. It may be for posterity, for presentation, or for other purposes like making a collage, or even a scrapbook. Regardless of their reasons, images from digital cameras can be processed with a slew of digital color printers. There are so many models from so many brands of digital color printers.
Some, of course, are better than others. How do you select the best one from a host of color printers in the market today? Here are some tips to help you out.
- Would you want your digital camera to connect to a PC before you could print out the images? Or would you prefer the option of having your images printed straight from the color printer? The former would entail digital printers that are relatively more affordable than the latter, but the latter are much more convenient. So this concern is really a matter of personal choice. Which would you prefer? Either choice would be good.
- Choose digital color printers capable of spooling out the print sizes you want. These prints could be as small as 3×5, or the standard 4×6, to as big as 13×19. Again, this is a matter of preference. What print sizes would serve you best? After determining this, you should decide between digital color printers that would accommodate the print sizes you want.
- Print resolution is also an important consideration when choosing between a slew of digital color printers. 2,400 x 1,200 dpi would be more than sufficient in this day and age. That would give you prints with fine details and smooth gradations.
- You should also determine on what media the digital printers are capable of printing. Would standard photo sheets be enough? Or would you need s ome special photo papers from the brand that’s distributing the particular printer? How much would the special medium cost? You want your digital color printer to serve you well, with everything being convenient and budget-friendly.
- Though the price of the digital color printer should be a consideration, you have to bear in mind the price should be secondary to the functionality and features of the color printer that you choose.
A digital color printer is an investment that will serve you for many years, so choose the best one for your money instead of compromising quality with cost.
